The Faculty of History PhD student Mr. Andrzej Cylwik's research internship at Valdosta State University, USA

Mr. Andrzej Cylwik, PhD candidate from the first year of the UG Doctoral School of Humanities and Social Sciences, discipline History, participated in a research internship in the USA in the framework of the NAWA program (September 7-23, 2024). The supervisor of his thesis is Dr. Magdalena Nowak, Prof. UG.

As part of the funding received from the National Academic Exchange Agency program, his mobility support was implemented at Valdosta State University, Georgia, USA. On September 17, Mr. Cylwik gave a lecture at VSU entitled The American Consulate in the Free City of Danzig 1920-1940 and its Role in American Foreign Policy in Europe. His lecture was of great interest to the VSU academic community, students and authorities. In addition, as part of a complementary search Mr. Cylwik once again visited the National Archives in  Maryland.

University of Gdansk enjoys a very good reputation at VSU. On the VSU campus one can see numerous posters encouraging American students to study at the University of Gdansk. After the lecture, Mr. Cylwik had many conversations with VSU faculty, staff and students. He encouraged the latter to study at our university.

We would like to express our gratitude to the authorities and the VSU community for their help and kindness. Our thanks go especially to the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. James La Plant, Head of the Department of History Prof. Dr. Jay Rickman, Interim QEP Coordinator Prof. Dr. Anne M. Price, and Prof. Dr. John Dunn, Poland's and UG's most loyal friend. During his stay at VSU Mr. Cylwik had meetings and consultations with Odum Library staff members: the Head of Interlibrary Ms. Loan Kytt Everdeen Moore, and Reference Librarian Prof. Emily Rogers which proved to be extremely fruitful. So were personal scholarly consultations with Dr. Rickman and Dr. John Dunn.

We also thank the VSU academic community for their kind interest and inspiting discussions. We are sure that Mr. Cylwik's internship in the VSU will bring many positive results for the shape of his the doctoral thesis.
